About

image011After 10 years working behind a desk for some of the worlds biggest brands, I decided that there was more to work and a career change was in order. I was looking to do something more fulfulling, meaningful and positive, inspired by the memory of being the family massage therapist from a young age and the challenge of the neverending complexity of the human body, I decided in 2007 that studying massage was the way forward and I have never looked back!

After completing an ITEC Diploma in Holistic Massage in 2008, I felt I needed to know more about how the body moves and functions and how to treat specific conditions. This led me to enrol on the BTEC Level 5 Professional Diploma in Sports & Remedial Massage with the NLSSM, one of the premier schools in the UK, which I completed in 2009. The truth is, once you embark on learning about the human body, there are endless varied and exciting opportunities for ongoing study. We are amazing! My own journey has led me to continued study of advanced treatment techniques, fascial release, Kinesio-taping, neuromuscular release and medical acupuncture, with the goal of getting the best results for my clients. This journey continues apace with human biology study and an application to enrol on a Physiotherapy degree this year..(watch this space!)

Maria at Glasgow 2014I am experienced at treating all ages of patient and am equally interested in remedial soft tissue treatment as I am in treating sports injuries and rehabilitation. I am experienced in working with many different types of athletes, particularly runners, cyclists, triathletes, fencers, boxers, rowers amongst others. I enjoy achieving results for patients, helping to alleviate pain, increase movement and a return to optimal function and movement.

I was excited and priviledged to be selected to be part of the Athlete Medical Services team, providing sports massage at the London 2012 Olympics and the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games. I am a fully qualified Sports First Aider and a member of the Sports Massage Association, The Institute of Sports & Remedial Massage and the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council, the regulatory body for all massage therapists in the UK.
